Working distance is the distance between your eye and the working site.

A combination of your musculoskeletal
requirements plus any unavoidable limitations of your working field should
dictate the nearest and furthest Working Distances
at which you must customarily perform your microsurgery.
Have an assistant measure your nearest Working Distance and your furthest Working
Distance. From these can be calculated your mean Working Distance. All three of these
measurements are useful in telescope selection and evaluation.
Your optical requirements should NOT
be a determining factor for your Working Distance. Rather,
the Depth of Field of your
surgical telescopes should accommodate your Working Distance.
Test your telescope system for this.

Remember: The Depth of Field of your surgical telescopes
should accommodate your Working Distance. NOT vice versa.
