After five more years in the British National Health Service in oral surgery positions, he joined the faculty at Birmingham Dental School, UK, as a lecturer in oral surgery from 1989-1999. He maintained a part-time dental practice position during this period, which allowed him to develop an interest in implantology. Both his MDentSc and PhD degrees were in the field of Biomaterials Research. He joined the faculty at UBC in August 1999, and is now a module co-ordinator for the Fundamental Medical Sciences module in year 1, and module coordinator for oral surgery in years 3 and 4.
