Dr. Zou completed her DDS degree from the School of Stomatology at Harbin Medical University in Harbin, China. Following her undergraduate degree, Dr. Zou earned her PhD in Stomatological Medicine and her Diploma in Orthodontics from Peking University in Beijing, China, where she then became a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Orthodontics. 
 
She then went on to work as a Visiting Scholar at the College of Dentistry at Seoul National University, as well as the College of Dentistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago, focusing on research in the areas of TMJ related diseases, as well as molecular mechanisms involved in the ordered mineralization of dentin. Dr. Zou then returned to Peking University as a full-time Clinical Associate Professor, where she taught and supervised graduate students until she came to Vancouver in 2014. 
 
Since coming to UBC Dentistry in 2014, Dr. Zou has been engaging in research efforts in the Sleep Apnea Laboratory and the Frontier Clinical Research Centre, as well as teaching in the DMD program.
