Dr. Renata Grazziotin joined the University of British Columbia in September 2022, and her teaching responsibilities are preclinical and clinical undergraduate and graduate endodontics. Her research has focused on dental education and endodontics. She participated as a postdoctoral fellow in these fields at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), where she joined the school efforts to incorporate critical thinking in preclinical courses. She has many years of expertise as a faculty member and scholar-researcher and has undertaken leadership positions at institutions in Brazil, the USA, Wales, and Canada. She has navigated through different experiences and locales throughout her life, providing her with personal, lived experiences in different cultures and communities. Her expertise in technical/surgical sciences and pedagogy allows Renata to better understand the intersection between biological, social, and cultural aspects of students and has encouraged her to explore alternatives to some of the more traditional approaches in dentistry/endodontics education, such as critical and creative pedagogies, visual methodologies, and arts-based research.
