ZnO-non-eugenol-based sealers: Glass ionomers, Solvent-based

By endodontic cements we understand setting materials intended to fill the entire root canal system, thus providing bulk and sealing properties in one material. Sealers based on ZnO-eugenol and epoxy resin have been marketed for this indication. However, there are no advantages to this mode of filling compared with the same material(s) used in conjunction with gutta-percha. On the contrary, hard-setting cements will shrink more if applied in bulk, and subsequent revision of the endodontic treatment as well as preparation of a post space is made very difficult if at all possible.
