A chronic apical periodontitis was diagnosed in tooth 41 with a post and previous root canal filling that seemed too short in the radiograph. Resorption of the root apex was also seen. The tooth was symptomfree, and a decision was made of conservative retreatment. Filling materials around the post were removed with thin diamond burs and small round burs. However, too much tooth substance and filling materials were lost resulting in the loss of most of the crown.
