After the rubber dam was placed and the area disinfected, silver points were removed with forceps. Earlier sealer had been washed away and the points were loose in the canals. Often ultrasound is needed to loosen and remove silver points. Removing silver points is often difficult, because they are soft and easily destroyed by ultrasound. Combination of glass-ionomer cement and silver points is particularly difficult. Palatal gutta-percha filling was also loose and removed by manual preparation without chloroform or other chemicals.
