Permanence

* The resistance to solubilization and disintegration has traditionally been attributed great importance as a desirable quality in endodontic sealers.
* On the other hand, it is considered desirable that surplus material is resorbed and transported away from the periapical area.
* Most materials show some solubility in laboratory tests.
* Materials inside the root canal tend to become isolated by a connective tissue capsule and further solubilization may not be a problem.
* Clinically, concerns have been raised about the persistence of Sealapex (and possibly Apexit), with suggestions that these materials may also dissolve or disintegrate from within the root canal. The x-ray series above shows Sealapex disappearing over several years from the apical part of the root canal. However, the case is healed and remains successful.
