D44

#44. All teeth in the lower jaw can have more than one root canal. Double canals are particularly frequent in the mandibular first premolars, with approximately 30% of these teeth having two root canals. First premolars with one canal are quite easy to instrument, the canal is oval in cross-section and seldom curves severely. When there are two canals, the files usually easily find the buccal canal, while the lingual canal often requires bending of the instrument tip. Molarization in the lower first premolar is very rare.
