The advances in the development of radiographic equipment and sensitive films has greatly reduced concerns about the potentially harmful effects of radiation to patients in endodontic radiography. Digital radiography with new types of sensitive sensors has further shortened exposure times. Although average doses in endodontic radiography can be difficult to estimate because of variations in equipment, distance, direction of the tube, type of protection and different film types, it is clear today that the overall dose in normal endodontic use is very low. However, it is important that the laws and regulations set by the authorities in different countries are followed in detail.
