Choice of the correct projection is important for the quality of endodontic radiographs. Paralleling techniques are preferred to bisecting angle techniques whenever possible, because they allow more reliable and precise comparison and measurement of the various components in the image. However, local conditions, such as a low palate, may require use of the bisecting angle techniques.
With horizontal angulations, central projection is used for diagnostic and initial radiographs. Mesial and distal projections are often needed for working length and master point radiographs in teeth with two or more canals.
