Digital sensors

In digital radiography sensors are used instead of films. The RTG-tube itself is the same as in conventional radiography. However, the equipment must be modern enough to allow precise short exposure times of 0.08 - 0.16 seconds.

Two types of sensors are used in digital radiography: 1) Phosphor plates, which are about the same size and thickness as conventional films, and are not connected to the computer by a cable. A scanner is needed to read the information on the phosphor plate in digital form. 2) CCD sensors, which are thicker than films and are connected by a cable directly to the computer. CCD sensors allow faster visualization of the picture, and are well suited for endodontic radiography.
