Image editing

One of the main benefits of digital radiography is that it is possible to edit images. The purpose of image editing is to adjust and enhance the different properties of the image in such a way as to improve the visualization and identification of the various elements without causing loss of any information. Image editing has a key role in the overall result, which is why it is important for the dentist to know in detail the possibilities and limitations of the software. For instance, adjusting brightness and contrast are usually not the optimal way of improving picture quality. Instead, changing the gamma-curve or moving the grey-level mid-point are better alternatives for editing.
