Conventional film types

Sensitive films should be used for all intraoral radiography. Periapical D and E speed films are suitable for endodontic use. E speed films are nearly twice as fast as D speed films. Several investigations have indicated that the diagnostic value of E and D type films is the same. The most widely used dental films in endodontic radiography are 30 x 40 mm in size for adults, and 22 x 34 mm for children and for lower and upper incisors of adults. In addition to periapical films, occlusal films are sometimes used, particularly in the upper incisor region.

Film holders should be used whenever possible with conventional films for best quality and to facilitate comparison between radiographs.
