Three months later the patient had an appointment for permanent root filling in tooth 45. A radiograph revealed asymptomatic apical periodontitis in the mesial root of tooth 46. The patient reported of no earlier pain in the two teeth. Because of the obvious obliteration of the mesial root canals in the molar the patient was referred to an endodontic specialist for endodontic treatment of tooth 46.
