Access cavity is in a central position during the whole endodontic treatment. The pulp chamber opening creates the possibilities
for effective and safe canal preparation. On the other hand, as the crown is weakened by pulp chamber opening, it should not be any
bigger than necessary. However, the most typical mistake is to make a too access cavity.
Access cavity should create possibility for axial preparation (according to the root) always when this can be done without too
much aesthetic sacrifice. For example, lower incisors could ideally be opened from the labial surface to facilitate canal
preparation but this is not done because of aesthetic reasons.
