In theory, internal root resorption could be treated in one appointment when the apical canal is vital and the resorption has not perforated. In practice, removal of all resorptive tissue requires a minimum of two appointments.
In cases, where the whole root canal has become necrotic, the minimum number of appointments is two, 1 - 3 weeks apart.
If the lesion has perforated out of the root, long-term calcium hydroxide therapy or surgical intervention or both are needed in cases where the tooth still is considered worth the treatment effort.
