The tools needed to place the rubber-dam are: hole-punch, clamp-forceps, rubber dam frame, and scissors.
The hole punch makes holes of different sizes with smooth margins, which is important for fracture resistance. Clamp forceps are used to get a good grip of the clamp, which is then placed around the tooth. The dam is then tightened with the help of the rubber dam frame, which comes in several different designs. Scissors are used to cut off any excess dam material to guarantee convenient use for the patient. Dental thread is often used to set the dam margins properly around the tooth cervix.
Sterile cauges shown under the instruments in the picture on the main window are used disinfect the rubber-dam after placement.
