Purpose

There are several goals for the instrumentation of the root canal during endodontic treatment. Instrumentation aims to:
1) remove together with irrigation the vital or necrotic pulp tissue and most of the microbes
2) facilitate the effectiveness of irrigation
3) make it possible to apply local medicaments into the root canal
4) make it possible to place a permanent root filling
