Overfilling
with sealer only is a condition that seldom causes any long-lasting problem.
If the root end anatomy is such that the apex terminates in such a way that
the sealer is introduced directly on the bone surface under the periosteum,
tenderness may ensure. In such rare cases surgical opening and cleaning of
the area may be considered. Most sealer overfillings are resorbed by host
cells in less than a year.
Overfilling with gutta-percha is statistically related to a poorer prognosis
than optimal or slightly short root filling.
