Severe discolorations
are often best treated with porcelain laminate veneers or with full coverage
crowns. However, many of the discolorations encountered in endodontic treatment
may be successfully treated with the "walking bleach" technique,
a procedure in which a paste of sodium perborate in 3 % hydrogen peroxide
is placed in the pulp chamber 1 - 2 times at weekly intervals. Use of a 30
% hydrogen peroxide seems to increase the possibility of cervical resorption
and should not be used.
Superficial staining may be treated with pumice cleaning and use of special
gels in individually made trays.
