Tooth Discoloration: Prophylaxis

The most important single procedure to avoid tooth discoloration is careful removal of all pulp tissue during endodontic treatment. Access cavity preparation is a particularly critical stage. Avoidance of sealers and filling materials known to cause staining is also important. Other prophylactic measures include early diagnosis and treatment of pulpal necrosis. Proper selection and use of systemic medicaments during tooth development will prevent rare but severe forms of tooth discoloration.
