Spontaneously
spreading infections before treatment can be best prevented by regular dental
visits. During endodontic therapy, the following guidelines help to reduce
the occurrence of flare-ups, some of which may under special conditions develop
into spreading infections:
1) avoid over-instrumentation
2) use the crown-down approach to preparation with frequent irrigation
3) avoid vigorous filing motion in the apical canal especially at the start
4) use of ultrasound with irrigation further reduces the possibility of flare-ups
