Mandibular Anatomy

Variations in the thickness of the mandible, cortical plate and cancellous bone, as well as nerve and vessel canals and their openings through the cortical bone are the major structural, non-dental elements of interest in endodontic radiographs of teeth in the lower jaw. The angle at which the radiation meets the various anatomical structures determines their appearance on the film.
