The ceramic occlusal surface was penetrated with a round high-speed diamond bur under water cooling. The metal was then penetrated with a high-speed hard metal bur. Steel round burs at low speed were used to search for the pulp chamber floor and canal openings. Palatal canal was readily found and verified by a radiograph.
