In chloroform dipping technics the master gutta-percha cone is first soaked wet in chloroform very quickly just to soften the surface of the point. Then the master point is inserted into the canal and pressed against the apical canal walls to give the point the exact shape and size of the apical canal. The point is then carefully removed from the canal before inserting back again, now with sealer. Although some worries have been expressed concerning shrinkage of the filling because of chloroform, chloroform dipping technics can in special situations give root fillings of good quality. (In the main window the canals have first been filled with chloroform dipping technics. Then other than the most apical filling has been removed before filling the rest of the canal with a warm gutta-percha technics.)
